Running in the Rain

This morning I woke up early to go for a run before work. I only hit the snooze button once, which is real progress for me. I rolled out of bed, fed the cat, and changed into my running clothes. I slathered on some sunscreen, grabbed my phone and id, put on my hat, and made my way to the front door of my building.

I opened the door and stepped outside. It was dark and grey. It was raining sideways. Yeah...it wasn't pretty. I headed back into my apartment, hoping that the weather would clear up with enough time to still go for a run. It soon became clear that it wouldn't. I made my way downstairs again and looked out at the dank and dark morning. I usually don't mind running in the rain. In fact, I kind of like it. But this was different, somehow. I don't know if it was the wind or if I just wasn't in the right mindset, but whatever it was, I just wasn't feeling it.

But guess what? I went running anyway. It was pretty much miserable, but I did it. I finished four miles with only one walking break. I'm still hovering around an average of 12 minutes per mile (technically, my average pace was 11:52 today), but I'm confident that I'll be able to get that number to creep lower as long as I keep running regularly.

When I was back home, I showered and had breakfast before getting ready for work. The good thing about the rain? It made my post run shower feel amazing! And my morning coffee while I prepared breakfast? Delicious!

So, today I learned a couple of lessons. A.) Always check the weather forecast and plan accordingly, but B.) don't sit around waiting for ideal conditions, because they may never come.
